what i wore: these boots were made for sitting in a closet

shirt {forever21}, sweater {loft}, pants {loft}, boots {anne klein}, bag {kate spade}, necklace {nordstrom}, earrings {kate spade}

How is it already December and this is the first time my new riding boots have graced the blog with their leathery presence? Oh probably because it’s been about 80F everyday. Needless to say it’s not beginning to feel like Christmas at all around here. But these boots are cute enough that they’re worth sweating in all day. Also whoever invented red-orange (or rorange) cords is my kindred spirit. You can ask Derek how much I love these things, if they weren’t such an obvious I-clearly-never-wash-these-pants clothing item, I’d wear them everyday. But you can’t be the girl that wears rorange pants two four days in a row, it’s not becoming. So when LOFT emailed me telling me that all of their cords were marked down I had to physically restrain myself to not buy a pair in every color. Seriously best fitting cords ever. And they barely make that zipping sound when I walk. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Also this is (probably) the last time you’ll see me with just one ring on my finger. 6 days! ;) And yes, my nails DO match my pants. RORANGE!

what i wore: foxy loxy

I’ve been having a bit of a fox moment this fall. It all started when I came across a matte ceramic origami fox at Target. I walked around the store with him tucked under my arm and I guess Derek took a mental note because for our anniversary he bought me this amazing fox belt, and a fox covered makeup bag from Tory Burch. I now have the origami fox sitting on my night stand because I clearly have ceramic animal separation anxiety. This is usually a spring/summer dress but considering the temps are still in the high 80s I decided to fall it up with this little foxy belt. And add a tortoise cuff and a brown bag and you’ve officially made a fall outfit! At least in my book. Whoever said you can’t wear white after Labor Day clearly didn’t own a fox belt. I’m just saying.

This has seriously just been one of those weeks. With RSVPs rolling in, taking over someone else’s presentation at work, designing an apartment for a client in another country [metric whaaa?], and checking items off of the never ending wedding to do list, I’m about ready for a fat nap! This weekend is the King William yard sale [AKA my favorite time of year besides Christmas] so you know that I’ll be up at the crack of dawn scoping everything out. Derek and I have big plans to ride our bikes around the neighborhood snooping on all of the loot along with the other yard sale crazies. I’m searching for a mid-century china cabinet or hutch of some sort, some new furniture to flip and sell, some art for the bedroom, some misc. items for the wedding, and whatever else catches my eye. Who else plans to be there tomorrow? It’s from 9am-4pm and here is the map for this year’s participants.

Hope to see you there!

what i wore: simple minded husband

As you know, we have a very unique wedding date. We were engaged on 11-11-11 and are getting married on 12-12-12. For our generation this is a very common thing to play with dates. I have several friends who were married on 7-7-07, 6-7-08, 10-10-10, etc. We love whimsical dates and they look cool graphically on invitations, save the dates, etc. However, people in an older generation don’t get it. Every. Single. Time. Derek and I go anywhere to do wedding errands and the sales person/vendor/man on the street asks us our wedding date and we cheerfully respond “12-12-12!!” they cringe or smirk or bust out laughing and ALWAYS respond with something like “oh so now he’ll never get in trouble for forgetting your anniversary! har har har” This was funny the first time, but after the 80th time it gets a little frustrating and honestly hurts Derek’s feelings.

Wednesday I was meeting with a new flooring Rep and his response took the cake. He looked at me with concern and said “oh do you have a simple minded husband that can’t remember dates?”. Really? It took everything in me not to say something snarky, but I just laughed it off like I’ve been doing all year. Now I understand that people of that generation have been married for 30+ years and have had their fair share of squabbles about any and everything (including forgotten anniversaries) but please don’t project your annoyances in marriage onto a soon-to-be newlywed couple. It’s disheartening. SO many people give us the rudest advice about marriage (who have been divorced) when I honestly just rather they keep it to themselves. Everyday I deal with this, and it’s a little frustrating. I’m sorry your marriage wasn’t peaches and rainbows, but that doesn’t mean we will be doomed for the same path. Give us a fighting chance!

Okay now that that’s off my chest, how cute is this skirt? And guess what? It was only $12! LOFT was having a massive sale on all of their summer stuff which in Texas means nothing because it’s mid-October and still 90F outside, so I definitely took advantage of the crazy discounts. I think I walked out of their with 2 skirts, a dress, and a jacket for $100. Crazy, I know! You had me at 60% off. What are you guys up to this weekend? Derek’s parents are coming into town tonight and we plan to celebrate his birthday at Oktoberfest! If you’re in SA you should definitely come hang out Saturday night! Other than that I will be wedding crafting it up! Who’s surprised? :) Oh and the wedding is officially 2 months away! yay!! :)

what i wore: preppy polka dots

shirt {target}, sweater {thrifted}, shorts {old navy}, shoes {old navy}, necklace (tiffany&co}

I don’t know what it is about boat shoes and polkadots but they just make me happy. I channeled Kate Middleton when I bought these shoes a few weeks ago, and they haven’t let me down yet. I’m not sure who I channeled when I bought these shorts the same day. Probably my five year old self? I actually thought they’d be pretty easy to style.. neutral color, neutral pattern. But every time I put them on, anything I pair them with ends up looking like jammies. So when things look like jammies I just tuck them in a throw  cardigan over it. Oh and throw on some boat shoes. No one wears boat shoes to bed.

Okay so onto more important things.. who else balled their eyes out watching Grey’s last night? oh em gee.
