reader DIY: bathroom overhaul

We get a lot of fun reader projects sent to us, so we wanted to start sharing how awesomely talented our lovely readers are!

Today we wanted to share with you a family DIY project completed by Derek’s parents. Dan and Edwina completely upgraded their master bathroom, so check out these amazing before and afters.

And now for the sink area:

Talk about an upgrade! They completely transformed their space. Even just removing the wallpaper and slapping on a fresh coat of paint did wonders. They also converted their bathtub into a shower, replaced all cabinet hardware, swapped out the original countertops with a more modern granite, added new sinks and faucets, removed the furdown above their sink and added new light fixtures, removed the large mirror and replaced it with two individual mirrors, and added a fun glass tile backsplash to their sink while incorporating some of that accent in their shower. These photos definitely don’t do this space justice, it really was like night and day!

Do you have a before & after you’d like to share with us? Email them here and we’ll add them to our list.

reader diy: freshening up your curb appeal

Do you guys remember when we had this reader question from Sarah who needed help choosing colors to freshen up the exterior of her home? Well guess what? She totally took my advice and over the holidays painted her house! Check it out..

I mean, it’s like night and day! It’s amazing what a few coats of paint can do to give your home a whole new look. Here is what Sarah said:

Hey Catharine,

Well they guys finished the house and we LOVE it!!!  We made a few changes.  1) Our painter was using Sherwin Williams paint and since we didn’t have a Benjamin Moore store anywhere near us I had to match the house and trim color to the ones you selected.  Sooooooooo I took a picture with my iPhone of the Benjamin Moore colors and color matched them on my Sherwin Williams app.  2) We decided to go for black instead of navy (even though I have always wanted a navy front door) because our neighbors trim is navy and I felt like we would be competing.  Plus I love black and I think it makes everything look really sharp.  It looks like a totally different house!!!

Thank you so much for your help!!
Sarah

It really does look like a completely different house Sarah, and I’m so glad that you guys are happy with it! Now let’s compare my ghetto rendering and the newly painted house:

Looks pretty spot on right? ;) I still can’t get over how much of a transformation this was. Thanks again Sarah for sharing!
