friday finds: puppy necessities

This weekend we’re heading up to north Texas to visit my parents for my birthday, my dad’s 60th birthday, and mother’s day (all rolled into one weekend!) This is also Geoffrey’s first official road trip (6 hours!!), so we’re a little nervous/excited about it all. After packing up all of our things this morning (and his) I realized that in just these past few weeks, we have accumulated a lot of stuff for our little boy. Here are some of our (his) favorite items.

Clearly there is a striped obsession happening, but I mean it’s me. Are we really surprised? Please don’t think we really bought a $50 dog bowl for little Geoffrey. I actually scored a pair of these at HomeGoods a few weeks ago for $15! And you can also get a zillion of those pooper scooper bags at HomeGoods for like $2. They have amazingly cheap pet stuff! We found that carrot at Petsmart a couple weeks ago. It was his very first toy and he is OBSESSED with it. I can’t find it on their website, but they definitely still have them in store. In fact my parents’ cherubs each got one as well. So random! But then when I googled it, apparently it was Bolt’s favorite toy too! I totally forgot about that. And Geoffrey sort of looks like Bolt. It was meant to be :) Oh and he LOVES tennis balls. He tries to bring all three of them back to me at once, so one is in his mouth and he’s kicking (and tripping) the other two back to me. Favorite.

I’m sure you’re probably looking at that car seat and thinking. Really? But it’s purely for safety reasons. Heaven forbid we get in a wreck, we don’t want our little boy flying through the windshield or getting beat up by an air bag, so when we travel we have in hooked in in the back seat with his blanket and some toys and he just lays down and sleeps, which makes us feel more at ease for such a log trip.

What are your favorite puppy items that we should know about? I feel like everyone and their mom has that little hedgehog toy.

summer looks under $35

Now that it’s officially spring (and has been here in Texas since February) I have been itching to update some of my spring wardrobe. All of these pieces are under $35 (except for one, but what’s another $9 in the grand scheme of things?) and most of which are under $20. You’re probaly thinking they must be poor quality right? Nope we have some J.CREW and Banana Republic all up in there. Enjoy :)

friday finds: guns up!

Last weekend while visiting my parents for Easter, my dad and Derek and I stopped by a yard sale along an old country road. You see, this is what we have done as a family for as long as I can remember. Bored? Let’s look for a yard sale or a thrift store and mill around for hours. Little did I know that would become a thing one day. And if you’ve never yard sale-d in a small town, you haven’t lived. Some of my greatest finds were along old country roads. So when we saw a teeny tiny piece of computer paper with the worlds “YARD SALE” and an arrow pointing down a windy road we knew we had to go. So we followed it for miles. Then we saw another arrow and followed that for a few miles. And there it was. Totally worth it.

Usually I don’t feel the need to dedicate an entire post to my yard sale finds (and will usually just instagram them), but in honor of the escaped convicts being captured minutes from my parents’ house (one of which was a convicted murderer.. yikes!!). I thought these were appropriate.

How quirky are these? It’s kind of hard to tell in these photos but they are orange with gold metallic guns. Seriously. The homeowner said that they were from the 60s (of course). And I just couldn’t pass them up. Plus they look really good with our other gold tumblers I scored from the Neiman’s line at Target last year at 80% off.

When I saw the price tag for these little shoot em’ up tumblers at $2.50 for all six, I grabbed them up and marched right over to the lady. Not without first grabbing a couple of these fun plates along the way at .25cents a pop.

I mean small town yard sales are the. best. Have I convinced you yet?

friday finds: happy chic

Okay I realize it’s not actually Friday, but it sure feels like it around here. I mean.. I’m wearing jeans today for crying out loud. Since tomorrow is a holiday, I decided I would post our Friday Finds a day early. I hope you don’t mind. And don’t worry, they are a doozie.

As some of you may already know, our BFF Jonathan Adler has launched a very affordable line at where? JCPenny. What? I know. I had kind of written off Pennys (that’s what I grew up calling it anyway) as a furniture source, but ever since they rebranded last year, they are really hitting it out of the park. I’m still not certain about their clothing, but the furniture department is to die for. Jonathan Adler, Pantone (!!!), Conran, Michael Graves. I mean hello? Dream town. Considering we had a Jonathan Adler / Pantone / Kate Spade wedding, all they would need to do is launch a Kate Spade line (yeah right) and they would have my trifecta of designers. Here are some of my favorite JA pieces.

The furniture is still a little high for me, but considering his sofas usually run for $10,000 these are a steal! I can’t wait to check everything out in person, along with the other collections. Now to decide on what to get :) Which are your favorite pieces?

beautiful sofas for under $900

Although I absolutely love my Pier 1 sofa that I scored at Big Lots for $300 a few years ago, Derek and I have been feeling a little cramped on it lately. It’s technically a loveseat, but it always worked perfectly for apartment living. And now that we’re rocking 1800sf, it’s about high time we stretch our legs out. Literally. I always watch TV laying down (I know I’m not alone on this one) so I end up scrunched in a ball so that Derek can fit his bum on the other end, which usually ends with me putting my feet all up on his lap which I know he just loves ;)

We’ve been searching for a true three seater sofa for about a year but everything we love is a million dollars (Yeah I’m talking to you Florence Knoll!)

But since we don’t (who does??) have $10,000 to drop on a sofa, we wanted to find something with similar lines, with an overall mid-century aesthetic. Enter Macys. What? I know. I was surprised too! But their current line of sofas is to. die. for. Here are some of my favorite pieces, and they’re all under $900, most of which are under $700!

Aren’t they just wonderful? I think we’ve settled on either Ava or Clare. I kind of want it in that limey green, but for Derek’s sake I won’t go there. Also they are all 10% off until tomorrow, so really they’re practically free ..what?
