friday finds | fall must haves

That early morning crisp air means one thing: FALL! I think fall is my favorite season because it’s not too too freezing, and all the bugs start dying [unlike spring that is bug-topia]. So I’ve pulled together some of my favorite fall items. Okay they’re not necessarily covered in colorful leaves or hay or scarecrows, but they do make me think of the change of season, so that counts! Plus.. you should be worried if I ever tell you to buy a scarecrow sweater. That only means that someone else has taken over the blog.

Are you dying yet? I sure am. I want any and all of this. I mean those drawer liners? Seriously? I’m ordering them now. If anyone can find those Lilly Pulizer bangles anywhere let me know! They’re sold out everywhere :( What are you guys eyeing this fall?

Sidenote: The King William annual garage sale is tomorrow! So bring your cash, and a uhaul and come EARLY all of the good stuff goes fast! I’ll be there along with my designer friends so prepare to fight! Jk.. no but really, I’ll wrestle you for a chair in a heartbeat. For more info go here. Is anyone planning on going? Hope to see you there!

dc:finds | color me denim

Every summer we see a lot more color, but this season designers are getting a little creative with their denim. Say goodbye to boring old blue jeans, and say hello to hundreds of new shades to add a little personality to your wardrobe. Now the question is.. Which color do you choose?

dc:finds | coming august 2011

The other day, my friend Krystal and I were strolling through The Shoppes at La Cantera, when all of a sudden I noticed a new sign covering an empty store [in the newer part] that read: ZGALLERIE COMING AUGUST 2011. I just about died. Being a Dallas native where there’s a ZGallerie on every corner, moving to SA was a huge transition. Where oh where will I purchase my ceramic animals? Okay okay, they have more than that. For those who are unfamiliar with that which is ZGallerie, they’re are kind of a glam meets Restoration Hardware but with Pier1 prices. That was a bad description. How about you just see for yourself? Here are some of my favorite items I’ve been drooling over lately.

[1] carlyle nightstand [2] soho sofa [3] sequoia console table [4] timber coffee table [5] eddie accent chair [6] lider desk chair [7] jett desk

[1] digital deco camera [2] vespa panel 1 [3] joyous garden 1 [4] anatomy study 1 [5] mademoiselle july ’36 [6] sumi-e figure 2 [7] san francisco

[1] venezia indoor/outdoor rug [2] grid throw [3] mimosa runner [4] geo pillow [5] braided herringbone rug [6] orange tangier pillow [7] african ikat pillow

[1] pineapple [2] gelato frames [3] orbit chandelier [4] faux coral [5] porcelain filigree jar [6] marquette taper holders [7] great mustaches mug [8] ram head [9] mariposa pillar holders [10] origami giraffe and rhino [11] harper round frames [12] owl vase

What’s fun about ZGallerie shops is that everything is arranged by color/theme, so if you’re looking for some insta-styling [which I always am] and you need a pop of red or yellow, they make it really easy to zero in on the prize. Or dangerous. Derek says dangerous. You can ask him, every time we walk into a ZGallerie I instantly start breathing faster as my eyes dart around the room trying to decide where to begin. He thinks I’m ridiculous loves it.

So my fellow San Antonians, don’t mess this one up! Go buy stuff. We need to keep shops like this in San Antonio. You remember what happened to our beloved West Elm.. I’m still trying to get over it.

dc:finds | scotchy scotch scotch

For those of you who don’t know, nail polish and nail polish remover are the #1 [and 1.5] most deadly carcinogenic products you have in your home. Seriously. Even above bleach and other crazy-high VOC filled cleaning agents. The toxins that are emitted just by opening a bottle of nail polish can not only have instant damaging affects to your brain and lungs, but they also linger in the air for days after simply opening a bottle. Gross right?

I’ve always been on the hunt for an all natural formaldehyde free nail polish, but they always come in super boring colors that are severely outdated. They’re also $1,000 a bottle. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but they’re really expensive for being such lame-o colors. So thankfully, my friend Rachel introduced me to the best organic nail polish on the planet: Scotch Naturals.

1. I’m a huge sucker for packaging, so they literally had me at hello. And 2. just look at the colors, I mean aren’t they de-lish? They’re 100% formaldehyde free, 100% acetone free, they’re free of metals and are completely non-toxic. They’re water-based rather than solvent-based like most nail polish, so they actually nourish your nails all day rather than suffocating them. Yay for no more yellow nails!

Scotch Naturals also has a soy based polish remover as well as a plant based one. So say goodbye to grodie VOC’s floating around your house for days on end. Yes, this non-toxic polish is a little pricier than regular nail polish, but a good scotch always is. Just kidding. But really, how can you argue when they’re saving your life while looking so yummy! Win.

dc:finds | bixby canyon bridge

I know I was a little hard on Kate Spade this past Monday, so now I’ll make up for it by drooling over these amazing clutches she just introduced. I mean.. they’re amazing. Like.. I would give my left kidney amazing. [And yes I am known to be an over-exaggerater] But before we get started, you should probably let this play in the background while you oogle over these clutches. Now that Death Cab is warming up your ears let me share a little bit of honesty with you. I love Kate Spade, this is obvious, BUT I usually swoon over her jewelry or clothing more than her handbags. Don’t get me wrong they are perfectly lovely, but they never have that oomph where I’m willing to fork over some serious cash for. Now these babies, they are divine.

I mean, to me they don’t even look very Kate Spade-esque, until you open one, and then it’s like BAM! Kate Spade. All up in there. I don’t even know where to begin explaining why I love the Bixby clutch so much. It’s probably the wood and lacquer bauble closure, and the perfect juxtaposition of the soft leather. Or is it the sunny interior? I really can’t say, but this bag has me really excited about what’s to come for the fall collection. Now please don’t think I’m so head-over-heels in love that I’d spend $325 on one of these. I’m going to wait patiently for them to go on sale just like a normal sane bargain shopper would, but it’s SO hard to think that maybe they’ll sell out before that can happen. Oh and they’re is also a full handbag version, but what can I say? I’m smitten for the clutch.
