As you know, we have a very unique wedding date. We were engaged on 11-11-11 and are getting married on 12-12-12. For our generation this is a very common thing to play with dates. I have several friends who were married on 7-7-07, 6-7-08, 10-10-10, etc. We love whimsical dates and they look cool graphically on invitations, save the dates, etc. However, people in an older generation don’t get it. Every. Single. Time. Derek and I go anywhere to do wedding errands and the sales person/vendor/man on the street asks us our wedding date and we cheerfully respond “12-12-12!!” they cringe or smirk or bust out laughing and ALWAYS respond with something like “oh so now he’ll never get in trouble for forgetting your anniversary! har har har” This was funny the first time, but after the 80th time it gets a little frustrating and honestly hurts Derek’s feelings.
Wednesday I was meeting with a new flooring Rep and his response took the cake. He looked at me with concern and said “oh do you have a simple minded husband that can’t remember dates?”. Really? It took everything in me not to say something snarky, but I just laughed it off like I’ve been doing all year. Now I understand that people of that generation have been married for 30+ years and have had their fair share of squabbles about any and everything (including forgotten anniversaries) but please don’t project your annoyances in marriage onto a soon-to-be newlywed couple. It’s disheartening. SO many people give us the rudest advice about marriage (who have been divorced) when I honestly just rather they keep it to themselves. Everyday I deal with this, and it’s a little frustrating. I’m sorry your marriage wasn’t peaches and rainbows, but that doesn’t mean we will be doomed for the same path. Give us a fighting chance!
Okay now that that’s off my chest, how cute is this skirt? And guess what? It was only $12! LOFT was having a massive sale on all of their summer stuff which in Texas means nothing because it’s mid-October and still 90F outside, so I definitely took advantage of the crazy discounts. I think I walked out of their with 2 skirts, a dress, and a jacket for $100. Crazy, I know! You had me at 60% off. What are you guys up to this weekend? Derek’s parents are coming into town tonight and we plan to celebrate his birthday at Oktoberfest! If you’re in SA you should definitely come hang out Saturday night! Other than that I will be wedding crafting it up! Who’s surprised? :) Oh and the wedding is officially 2 months away! yay!! :)

Urgh, I hate all that stuff! Mr V is so much more likely to remember things like anniversaries than me. It’s all so sexist. With the whole wedding planning thing, everyone assumes I’m doing everything and he’s just been conned into proposing. Wrong and wrong!
I try to just take it of revealing of their own insecurities and disappointments and consider myself lucky.
Two months!! Eeee!

It really is sexist! I mean honesty Derek is helping a lot with the wedding and actually has concerns and cares about certain aspects he’s not just some robot going through the motions to shut me up. But I guess everyone assumes every couple is the same and they’re always like “you’ll see..” what does that even mean?? haha I’m glad I’m not the only one! :)

this post was both awkward and AWESOME!!!!
Unfortunately I once gave you awful advice/shared with you my experience with moving in with another designer when you and D were talking about moving in together. I said something dumb like “prepare yourself for the design battles” but honestly, they arent battles at all. I just like to exagerate. and I learned after some time of living with my designer that i was being selfish and wanted the apartment to look like my ‘signle self’ apartment but have now had the chance to turn it into a collaborative effort and have an “us” apartment. Sorry for my bad/dumb advice/story. I digress.
I celebrate you and D! and celebrate 12-12-12! and celebrate thriftyness! see you next weekend at the KING WILLIAM GARAGE SALE!!!!!

Haha I do remember you saying that and you were right, it was hard at the beginning and we still face certain issues when it comes to decorating our place but honestly the biggest issue is how small the apartment is and the lack of storage. Other than that though it’s been fun to see it become our place rather than my place :)
And yes you will see us at the KW yard sale! Weeee!!! What time are you getting there?

“some people”. that’s my answer to these fools. I never thought about the date for some reason, it was more about working around the hobby centers theater schedule so maybe that’s why. But, I CAN say that according to my calculations our anniversary date has a common denominator :P 4.12.08

I thought about you yesterday. It was 10.11.12! How often does that happen? I guess about once a year for a while.
