With fall just around the corner that means one thing. That all of our favorite shows are back and an entire summer of Netflix was well worth the wait. So to continue with last year’s line up, we wanted to share with you some new/old shows we’re loving. Oh and if it has a * next to it, it means we both watch it.
*EDIT*
Since writing this post last week, we’ve both fallen in love with two new shows that will be starting up soon (listed at the top). And by fallen in love I mean that we watched the second season of one show and the first four seasons of another this past weekend and are officially caught up. And obsessed. So I wanted to share them with you, so that you can jump on the bandwagon if you aren’t there already.

Parks and Recreation* | Sept 20 | NBC
Why I Watch: I know I know, everyone loves this show. But it took us forever to get into it! Probably because we’d watch it whenever it came on rather than in order so a lot of the character dynamic didn’t make sense. If you don’t already watch this though, it’s on netflix and hulu so you can definitely catch up. We would rotate it out with the next show we mention to kind of provide some comic relief from how heavy the other show is. I think my favorite characters are April and Ron :) And I love that Ron’s real wife plays his ex wife on the show, it makes for great awkward chemistry!

The Walking Dead* | Oct 13 | AMC
Why I Watch: I think it’s safe to say that this is the greatest show on television right now. My dad stumbled on it last year and told us to watch it, and we found the first season on Netflix. It’s a short season, but it will suck you in and leave you wanting more. We found the second season online and the storyline just gets better and better. If you haven’t seen it, it’s kind of like the first (good) seasons of LOST mixed with zombies (or “walkers” as they call them). A group of people is has found each other for one reason or another and are just trying to survive what appears to be their inevitable doom. I have no idea how these series will end, but we definitely plan to see it through. Just the trailer for season three makes me want to countdown the days until the season premiere. Does anyone else watch this show? We are obsessed.
NOTE: it’s very gory, and very suspenseful, so if that isn’t your thing then you probably wouldn’t like it. Just to warn you. I don’t like scary movies though and I freaking love this show, so I don’t know what that means..

90210 | Oct 8 | CW
Why I Watch: I really don’t know why I still watch this show other than the pure fact that the season finales always leave me wanting more. What can I say? It’s a guilty pleasure.

Gossip Girl | Oct 8 | CW
Why I Watch: I feel like my friend Shannon and I are the only two people who still watch this show. The drama is so ridiculous and the twisted story lines keep me wanting more Blair and Chuck. And Nate Archibald, naturally.

Modern Family* | Sept 26 | ABC
Why I Watch: It is hilarious. And I’m pretty sure that Derek and I are Phil and Claire, even though I really hope we’re not. Plus the clips for this next season hint at Gloria being preggers? Be still my heart.

Happy Endings* | Oct 23 | ABC
Why I Watch: This is the best show since Friends ended, and the characters parallel each other quite well if you really think about it. I love the witty banter and hilarious stories each week. Three words: zombie hipster apocalypse.

Glee | Sept 13 | FOX
Why I Watch: I’m not sure how I feel about this season considering all of my favorite characters are now in college which leaves me wondering if they’ll still follow their stories each week. I love watching Finn and Rachel sing together or Curt and Rachel, or really just Rachel. Obsessed.

How I Met Your Mother* | Sept 24 | CBS
Why I Watch: Okay confession.. I’m a few episodes behind on the latest season which honestly hardly kept our attention. But I plan to watch this season because at this point I’m just ready to know who the flipping mother is!

The Big Bang Theory* | Sept 27 | CBS
Why I Watch: Let’s see.. you put socially awkward scientists next door to two hot girls and Blossom. Comedic gold. Raj can’t talk to girls unless he’s drunk, Sheldon has rules and neurosis about everything, Howard has skinny jeans in every color and silk leopard sheets, and Leonard and Penny’s love roller coaster is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat week after week.

Grey’s Anatomy | Sept 27 | ABC
Why I Watch: I’ve been watching this show since college and I honestly just want to see it through. As soon as I get a little bored with the storyline they suck me back in with a plane crash and a dead doctor. No one knows their plane has crashed! I. Can. Not. Wait.

Private Practice | Sept 25 | ABC
Why I Watch: Well because it’s a spinoff of Greys and it has Addison Montgomery. I love me some sassy doctor shows.

Community* | Oct 19 | NBC
Why I Watch: So Derek and watched all three seasons of this about a week ago (it’s all on Netflix/Hulu) and it is SO funny. I wish college was really like this. Maybe community college is? I’d love to have a campus-wide paintball tournament, or a dalmatian loving tiny outfit wearing dean. And Annie’s Disney princess eyes get me every time.

Switched at Birth | Sept 3 | ABC Family
Why I Watch: I’m usually not a fan of ABC Family shows, but this one is just so sweet. Honestly what drew me in was that it opened us up to the deaf community. It really is an eye opening show that has a great message on tolerance and equality. I’ve been slowly learning sign language since the series premiered last year.

The Middle* | Sept 26 | ABC
Why I Watch: Middle America. We don’t even know where they live but they are the most average American family and their anecdotes each week are so spot on and so hilarious. Axel makes me terrified to have a teenage boy, and Brick wanted to set the leaves free after raking them. The parents are rarely patient with their children and I think that’s why we love it so much. It’s so honest.

Suburgatory* | Oct 17 | ABC
Why I Watch: This show is just ridiculous. It makes fun of suburban life, throwing two New Yorkers into the suburbia bubble where everything is perfect and prissy teenage daughters have pet kangaroos. Also the dad played Elton on Clueless, and now Alicia Silverstone is his love interest. Who else can they cast from my favorite 90s movie?

New Girl* | Sept 25 | Fox
Why I Watch: This show is great. If you haven’t watched it yet you are seriously missing out. Jes is living with three boys all of which have their own problems. I really don’t know how to describe it. Just watch. Preferably the episode where they play True American (a drinking game).
Well there you have it, a very eclectic mix of good/bad television. But what can I say? After a long day at work, it’s nice to come home knowing that my DVR has a delightful collection of shows waiting for me [sans commercials, of course]. It’s couch potato heaven. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. What are your guilty pleasures?

I love Grey’s and the Big Bang Theory! We’re also looking forward to Homeland and the Office starting back up.

Oh I know I feel the same way! I was trying to work on wedding stuff while watching it the other day but I knew as soon as it got silent I’d have to stop and read everything lol so I just stopped everything I was doing and give it my full attention. Plus Emmett is pretty much my favorite, so I’d never miss anything he said/signed :)

So they released a bunch of new shows that look very cool, but I still want to watch all my faves from last year. I love Big Bang, will be watching Modern Family of course, and definitely want to check out Suburgatory. I was nervous about the number of episodes I’d have to record, since my work schedule at Dish often means I won’t be home for Prime Time. Luckily, I got the Hopper, and with Prime Time Anytime I can set it to automatically record all the PT shows on the big four networks. It’ll all be ready for me when I get home, and I don’t have to worry about scheduling conflicts. There are quite a few shows I want to watch, but I just might pull it off with the Hopper.

I’ve never seen Boardwalk or Homeland, I’ll have to check them out! (Like I need anymore to add to my list ha!) I watched the first episode of Dexter and it totally freaked me out so I stopped. Maybe I should try again because so many people love it.

The New Normal is cute. You might like it. I love the flamboyant gay guy in it. He’s pretty hilarious. I wouldn’t be able to make a schedule for my fall lineup. I watch way too much tv. It’s pretty disgusting.
