Wow how is it already Thursday? I don’t know about you but this week has been crazy busy. When I’m not planning a wedding I’m teaching an NCIDQ prep class, which literally wears me out. But I love it nonetheless! Anyway, after last week’s living room update a few of you noticed a pair of chairs we’ve been accidentally hiding that have finally graced the blog with their presence.

These walnut Gunlocke chairs were Derek’s prized contribution to our furniture family. He bought them last summer after a friend of ours texted him with a drool-worthy junk shop photo of these lovelies for a whopping $70 for the pair.

They were both stamped underneath with the Gunlocke name and after some quick googling we quickly learned that these babies retail for $200-800 depending on their condition. So needless to say he snatched those suckers up in a heartbeat. We knew the upholstery was a little soiled, but after bringing them home and scrubbing the heck out of them with some Mrs. Meyers all purpose cleaner, they were looking good as new!

As you can probably tell from the photos, the wood was a little scuffed up as well. We’ve been meaning to refinish them we just haven’t gotten around to it yet, but now that they’re out in the living room for the whole world blog to see it’s about high time this gets moved up on the todo list. We’ve found some great remedies for buffing out the scratches that we can’t wait to share with you. We’ve also been debating on whether or not to reupholster them, but I’m a little nervous about tackling that one, and I’m kind of loving how the taupy tan looks on our coral wall. But I think I nice ivory herringbone would look lovely.
This post reminds me that a lot of you have been asking where my favorite goto thrift/junk shops are in the area and this weekend I plan to put together a full list with details and a map! How’s that for service? ;) I also found two new favorites this weekend while thrifting with my parents. Yes. After my parents drive 6 hours to come see me, we go thrifting. It’s our thing :) Have any of you found a great thrift shop lately? Did you score any mid-centry finds? Do share!

These chairs are fantastic! What a steal’in deal. I can’t wait to see a list of your favorite thrift store in San Antonio. I’ve got several in northern California, but no real good furniture places.
My best retro score was a matching set of teak, oval, two tier living room tables, a coffee and side table. They need refinishing, but both were under $15 the pair. Love them.
