wedding wednesday: make our wedding like this pillow

January 11 2012

Baby Mama? Anyone? Fine.. go here. Okay now that that’s out of the way, I’ve selected the colors for our wedding! Yay! I’m going to be honest for the future brides out there.. you better know your colors the second you’re engaged because that is probably the #1 question I get asked. And I was starting to feel the pressure. As someone who has majored in colors, how on earth could I chose?? Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted my bridesmaids to wear black. I think it’s chic and classy, it looks good on everyone, and you get to take home a LBD at the end of the night. Everyone wins! But I was told that dark dresses don’t photograph well so I started thinking of wintery colors [considering it's all going down in December], but I didn’t want it to look Christmas-y so I was leaning toward grey and mint with accents of gold. I still love this color pallet, but I honestly think it’s a little boring for us. It’s also very hard to find grey dresses in all the same tone and mint shoes are very scarce and therefore the look I was aiming for was very limiting.

So after talking it over with my photographer, she encouraged me to choose whatever colors I wanted and that “it was [her] job to make us look good”. And that right there won me over. So I went back to plan A and followed my instinct. But don’t worry. It won’t be a boring wedding being just black and white. Because I’ve chosen six colors [gasp!] based on this Jonathan Adler pillow.

I love everything that this pillow represents. It’s hip, it’s modern, it is full of happiness and color, it has several typefaces [swoon], and it’s covered in happy words. Now if a pillow can get me this excited, you bet your buttons it will be the inspiration to our whole wedding day: Colorful. Modern. Happy. That pretty much sums us up as a couple. And now for the official colors:

Do you think I’m crazy yet? Good. Why would you pick two colors when you can have six? Also.. If you recall.. I have six bridesmaids, and therefore lots of of ideas for these colors. Now can we address how awesome these color names are? I had a design professor that always said “in my next life I’m going to do LSD and name paint colors for a living” awesome. Anyway, I’d like to explain why the names of these colors represent us as a couple:

Ice Plant – after some research I have discovered that Ice Plants are one of the only plants to flower year round while also producing fruit, so therefore they are totally awesome [like us]

Gambol Gold – after more research, “gambol” means to skip or frolic, which we love to do at the mall, in a park, at HEB, pretty much anywhere there is sun and a cool breeze.. and a puppy

Energetic Orange – we both eat Cuties every morning and after lunch, which give us more energy than coffee!

Raindrop – I know that rain is supposed to be good luck on your wedding day so here is ours, and it’s pretty much the only rain I want to see that day.

Irresistible – I mean we obviously find each other irresistible! [duh]

Houseplant – This determines weather or not we can have children. If we’re responsible enough to keep a houseplant alive, we can then keep a puppy alive, and therefore know we’re ready to have babies [..what?]

So there you have it, the official color pallet of our wedding. I know it’s not for everyone, but it’s totally us. What do you think?
