rain check

I’m feeling a bit under the weather today, which means A. I don’t feel like taking an outfit photo or writing a witty blog post, and I always say that no blog post is better than a half-thought blog post, A:1. All of my makeup and/or beauty products are being next-day aired to me because I accidentally left them at my parents house [5 hours away] which also leads to zero outfit photos due to the fact that I’m having to use random makeup I found in a drawer in my bathroom B. I shall return in the New Year with a nice holiday recap [don't worry it's only a few days away], and C. I want a puppy, preferably in a red sweater.

I’m having dinner with my BFF/MOH [Best Friend Forever/Maid of Honor] tonight which I couldn’t possibly be more excited about, so I definitely need to rest up! And by rest up, I mean dimension a super intense flooring pattern all day in AutoCAD until the bell rings five o’clock.

wedding wednesday: i have a date and a dress

So after lots of stewing and crying and stressing and calling and begging, we officially have a date for our nuptials. Reeaaaaddddyyyyy?

Who’s surprised? No one? I know, it seems pretty obvious considering we got engaged on 11.11.11. This was our first pick until we realized that it fell on a Wednesday. So when all of the churches and venues had already booked up every Saturday in 2012 we knew that it was meant to be. After talking it over with our families who all said that they would be there no matter what, and after finding a church that would marry us on a weekday, we were sold. Also being the huge typeface nerds that we are we’re pretty stoked at how 12.12.12 will look on our invitations and save the dates. Double also, it’s the last day in our lifetime that the date will have repeating numbers until about 3001, so yay!

So since the date is now set in stone, I felt 100% comfortable diving into wedding planning because it didn’t feel like I was making all these plans for some random unforeseen date in the future. It’s actually happening now! So over the holiday weekend my mom and I decided to go dress shopping since I would be back home in Dallas and knew all of the cool boutiques to pop in plus it was pretty much the only time to get my mom’s opinion, which I trust the most out of anyone I know. We went shopping on Friday and Monday and I only tried on six dresses total. On Friday I only tried on one dress and it was pretty much love at first sight.

I didn’t buy it though because I wanted to sleep on it and it was going to take 5 months to make which made me a  commitment-phobe. Plus it was the first dress I tried on so that couldn’t be the one! Could it? That weekend I went online to a few other places and made a list of style numbers and names so that I could march into the boutiques and be prepared with my list because the whole digging for dresses thing is not my idea of fun. It’s impossible to see them without taking them out of their bags and it stressed me out. So Monday was going to be a different game. I wasn’t head over heals for any of the dresses on my list, but I thought I would try on some very different styles to see if any of them compared to my numero uno. Once I had them pulled for me I was even less excited. Note to self: dresses look a LOT different online than they do in real life. But I thought, what the hay I’m already here so I might as well try them on. While browsing around while the girl pulled my dresses I came across an extra dress that wasn’t on my list but looked pretty cute so I added it to the pile. Here are some of the rejects from the afternoon..

Dress #2 – It looked much cooler on the model than on me. On me it was rather meh. I mean it was pretty, but meh.

Dress #3 - shall not be named or shown for the sake of Derek.

Dress #4 – This was my out of the box high fashion look. It was very over the top, very layered, very show stopper-esque. But seriously that dress ate me alive. I could barely fit in the dressing room with it because it was just that big. This photo cuts off the ginormo train action happening. Let’s just say, a girl can only handle so much tule.

Dress #5 - This sucker weighted 1,000 pounds. It was beautiful but I couldn’t walk a foot without feeling like I was about to collapse. Don’t worry the sales associate assured me that when I got it hemmed for my height it would take out a lot of weight. Really? I need it to lose about 10lbs of fabric. I couldn’t even pick it up.

Dress #6 - I was totally in love with this dress from afar, but when you get up close to it it has some really wonky details. The bodice is completely frayed and unfinished looking and that big bow was a giant frayed piece of fabric that was 10′ long. I thought it looked really unfinished and not very formal. Plus it had this weird detail on the zipper which lays flat nicely in this photo, but in actuality it flips out like a little wing. Not okay.

Why Vera? WHY!?!?!

Throughout the process, the girl next to me had 3 months to find a dress so we were all trying to help her, and after each dress I tried on her mother told the sales associate to grab one in her daughter’s size. It was kind of awesome. So we became BFF right away. And I’m pretty sure she picked my dress #5, she definitely had the guns to carry that thing.

I tried on #3 again and twirled and smiled and everyone around me oohed and ahhed in the “that dress looks really good on you” kind of way rather than the “you look like a fairy princess” shebang. I was really tired of hearing that one. Do I look like the kind of person who wants to look like a fairy princess? I don’t think so. So anyway, I chose mystery dress #3 and left the store never to go dress shopping again. Weeeee!!! Also my winning dress was marked down 50% off because it was a Fall 2011 style gasp! who cares? So I saved a crapload of money that I can now put toward FOOD!

Now I can devote all of my time on finding the perfect dresses for six of my favorite girls :)

what i wore: who’s got the button?

dress {c/o langford market}, coat {forever21}, shoes {payless}, necklace {nordstrom}, bag {kate spade}, watch {michael kors}, belt {c/o langford market}

Spoiler Alert: This happens to be my New Year’s Eve outfit. What am I doing for said holiday? I have no idea. But I do know that I will be with some of my favorite people, and that’s all that matters. So I’ve noticed that everyone always looks at me differently when I wear this coat. I feel like they think I’m more important than I am. I feel like it’s because it has a very nice Blair Waldorf quality. What they don’t know is that A. it was $30 and B. it has literally lost almost every button on it within a year of owning it. I was even boasting about how the buttons on each sleeve cuff are still there yesterday at lunch. Then while putting my seatbelt on later that day I heard/saw something black fly across the front seat and hit the winshield with a smack that made me jump like I had been shot at. Don’t worry it was one of the last three two buttons. It was as if it literally jumped off of my coat. Do you have this problem with your buttons? I thought it was just because it was a cheap forever21 coat, but I have another mustard yellow one form there that has all of it’s original buttons intact. I don’t understand it. Luickily I’ve been saving all of these little plastic jumping beans buttons in a jar so that one day I will actually sew them back on. Until that day, I will have to hold my coat closed with my very own hands, like the classy  lazy gal I am.
