what i wore: alma mater

I’ve always loved the combination of blue and gold, but there’s something about it that always makes me think I’m wearing my school colors. Middle School that is. Go Bowman Raiders? And then I feel really dorky because only nerds wore their school colors on spirit day. Oh wait. That was me. At my school there were two groups: “Preps” and “Bangers”, I was obviously a Prep. I sported my Limited Too like nobody’s business and never left home without a matching scrunchie. The Bangers wore Jncos and listened to Marilyn Manson and painted their fingernails black. Did your middle school [junior high] have these two groups? I know Derek’s did because we laugh about it now. Why? Because he was a Banger.

Who ever thought that Preps and Bangers could fall in love? That certainly goes against all games of M.A.S.H. I played in my Lisa Frank notebook.

hahaha! Jncos. I had some, not gonna lie! They were girl ones though, so the legs weren’t as wide as an elephant leg. I rarely wore them too. I was more about sporting my white kswiss shoes. Oh man, Middle School was not awesome.

I love that colour combo. We sorta had preps and bangers at my small english school, but we never called them that – jocks and skaters was the closest we came.

Oh yeah! We had skaters too, although I don’t think that any of them actually skated. They just wore vans and didn’t cut their hair :)

I was right there with you GIRL. KSWISS, Tommy Hilfiger plaid and khaki shorts and pants. And sweater vests! Unfortunately we had more than just two groups at Junior High and the dominating group was 3) Cholos! for those suburbanites who dont know what a cholo is – its a mexican thug. eek

Oh shit! My junior high colors were blue and gold too!!

But, the very first thing this brought to mind was cub scouts. Derek? You know what I’m talking about.

Blue and gold are classic, but like green and red (Christmas), they are a highly evocative combination. For instance, yellow and red always remind me of McDonald’s. One of the four UTSA low cost house designs is red and yellow and I can barely stand to look at it.
