I’m a junk shop/thrift store conoisour and the shops along Hildebrand (and Blanco) don’t disappoint. Their hours are wonky, but if you drive by any there is furniture sitting out front, then you’re good to go! But once you go inside, be warned, it can be a little intimidating.
Talk about stuff!
And more stuff..
And even more stuff! (yes, this is all the same place)
Each store is seriously wall-to-wall furniture so you have to be patient, and thorough. Junction is one of my favorites because although it’s jam packed to the brim with vintage finds, it’s über cheap! There are other places along Hildebrand/Blanco that are also packed like sardines, that aren’t so cheap. So be careful! You shouldn’t have to pay high dollar for a sofa when you also have to dig it out from under 3 others. Always haggle, these people expect it.
That sofa was only $40. I mean seriously. And I’m still kicking myself for walking away from it, but I didn’t need two sofas. You’re kicking me now too aren’t you? Don’t worry, it was gone the next day. That’s the thing about these places. Stuff goes FAST!
The mirror was 40% off of $75 but I didn’t know if I really wanted it yet, until I got home. When I went back on my lunch hour the next day it had sold that morning. Typical. What’s the moral of this story? Go with your gut! Derek scored some sick Gunlocke chairs at The Leaky Cauldron on Blanco. Okay it’s not really called that, but I never know the names of these places so I’ve developed nicknames for them. I call it The Leaky Cauldron because I was there during a storm once and all of the furniture was soaked from all of the leaks. So needless to say you shouldn’t pay full price there for sure, which he didn’t! Thanks Steve!
I’m completely obsessed with these shops, as in I’m usually stalking them every other weekend or so because they go through inventory so quickly. These aren’t the only good junk shops in SA, but they’re definitely my faves. Have you been to any of these? Are you a big fan too? Or are you just to stressed out seeing all of the precarious piles? If you need any good junk shop/thrift store recommendations in the area I’m your girl! I’m telling you, it’s a sickness. Oh and if you see a cobalt tufted sofa running around, I’ll give you a kidney. What are your go-to cheap-o vintage furniture shops?
