  • When The Boy gets looked up and down by other boys. He’s not my gay husband fellas, we’re dating. But I’m glad you think he’s worthy of the up down..
  • How excited I get just walking from my car to the front door of HomeGoods. As in.. I have to bee-line it to the restroom before I can oogle at all of the ceramic animals and lamps.
  • Falling asleep on the couch during dinner parties. It was a busy week okay?
  • Dating someone for over 1.5 years and only just now bonding over our love of big band music. PS: if you also love it, go to The Cove every Wednesday night to catch John Magaldi and the Prime Time Orchestra. Holy moly they’re awesome!
  • Getting up and leaving halfway through our Moonlight Movie after remembering how depressing Happy Feet is. I forgot about the whole social outcast even your father is embarrassed of you thing. At least it was free!
  • Sometimes I forget that I have My Little Pony unicorns sitting on my desk at work. I am a professional I promise!

  • Getting to hang out with my friend Krystal in real life. We met on Twitter.. which is totally normal.
  • Finding this dress on mega clearance at Nordy Rack. I’m talking on-my-way-to-the-checkout-line-eyes-locked-on-this-purple-beaut-and-making-a-uturn-to-the-dressing-room clearance.
  • It actually miraculously RAINED! Which makes it a cool 89º right now.
  • Date nights in, watching torrenting Big Bang Theory mega marathons and eating P.F. Chang’s great wall of chocolate to go.
  • Finally getting the blog’s missing images and broken links squared away. Thank You David!!! Seriously, if you need a webmaster call this guy! Oh and if you guys happen to come across any missing images or broken links please let us know so we can fix it!
  • Finally finding a nail polish that doesn’t chip for like.. I don’t know how long yet, but so far it’s been 8 days! Is it embarrassing that it’s Essie and I’m just now jumping on this bandwagon? Oops.
  • Yet another girl date with my friend Lisa. Yes we also met online, and no it wasn’t eharmony. Or craigslist. And we’re twins. It freaks me out. But in a good way ..what?

What are some awkward/awesome things that have happened to you this week? Embracing the awkward makes you awesome!

house crashing: a marvel-ous manor

Welp, it’s that time again! We have another house crashing photo tour for your stalking viewing pleasure. A few weekends ago we ventured out to the Northside of San Antonio to shoot our friend Joaquin’s amazing split-level home. He’s lived there for the past six years and looking at each perfectly placed pillow and book, it shows. We’re so used to crashing apartments where the owners are a little more transitional, so it was refreshing to see a more established space that has been assembled over time. Joaquin doesn’t skimp on the details as you’ll see in some of our favorite shots from the day.

Now does the title make sense? Joaquin has sprinkled comic book characters [namely Wonder Woman] throughout his home which adds the perfect dash of personality. And all of the artwork you see? He did all of it. Amazing right? So who hates their own house now? He has definitely inspired us to take it up a notch when it comes to making the spaces we live in our own.

To see the rest of the tour go here. Do you want to be next on our house crashing tour? We’d love to share your swanky digs with our readers! You get a photographer and stylist in one modern couple [yep, that just happened]. If you’d like to be featured in our house crashing series, let us know and we’ll add it to the tour. We’ve got some doozies lined up!

10 things: andy castillo can’t live without

We’re continuing with our series featuring some of the creative people that we know. Every Tuesday we will introduce them as they share with us the ten things they can’t live without. Today we are introducing our dear friend and aspiring Architect, renovation guru, and DIY master Andy Castillo.

Location: San Antonio, TX

[one] stef

My wife she’s been with me for years and I wouldn’t know what I would do without her. Just got married in January and found out we are having a honeymoon baby in September. Its going to be a great adventure together.

[two] family

They pushed me to finish school and to get the highest education I could. They encouraged me to study abroad and do what I want to do in life. They influenced me to work the way I want to work and to open my own business at age 21.

[three] architecture

Nothing more to say!

[four] travel

During my undergraduate, I went to study abroad in Italy for a semester; it was the best thing I ever did. After school ended, Stef and I backpacked around Europe for 3 weeks. I didn’t have enough after we got back; the following year after getting into Graduate school, I did another study abroad in Spain and then backpacked around Europe again for another month. I want to go again!

[five] building

My 93 year old building that we currently live in: Bought it like 6yrs ago. Between school and travel, my dad, our friend Tino and I worked on the weekend gutting it out, installing new walls, electrical and plumbing. Now I’m in the process in designing and building a baby’s room.

[six] food

Love food, we try to go to different restaurants all the time. Thia, Pho, Mexican, Italian; love it all!

[seven] hobie cat

My 16 ft sailboat: its as old as me but it still works great! Haven’t been able to take it to the lake in the past 2yrs but this summer will be different.

[eight] technology

” Yes, I love technology. But not as much as you, you see,” I like to learn new programs for architecture; it seems the only way to keep up with the world is to keep learning. Now I’m learning how to make websites; still working on mine, check it out www.ascastillo.com

[nine] coffee

Haven’t had a great espresso in a while but I miss the coffee we would have in Italy everyday. I did get lucky, a good friend of mine just got back from Rome and got us a peculator and some espresso; so I cant wait to try it!

[ten] baby

The newest addition to our family! We don’t know what it will be since Stef wants it as a surprise, so all the family is mad since they don’t know what to buy: blue or pink! Its kinda funny but I want to know too and I’m going crazy waiting till September 30.

Stay tuned for text Tuesday when we feature our dear friend and Photographer, Graphic Designer, and blogger of I Am Curtis, Curtis “Cool Breeze” Williams.

Until next time!

fashion roadkill

Dear Kate Spade, WHAT is going on? You know that I love KS more than anyone, but some of the bedazzled “critters” embellishing her bags and accessories lately are starting to puzzle me. Now, let me share a story with you..

Remember when I was in Chicago and waited in the pooring rain/wind/freezing temperatures on my birthday to walk into her Oak Street shop? No? Here is a photo to remind you:

It was a Sunday so I forgot that they didn’t open until noon. Anyway! While waiting, there was this lovely fashion-forward woman from Vancouver waiting with us. It was love at first sight. She was braving the weather in her Hunters, with her Tory Burch bag, and her perfectly pressed trench. Once the doors were unlocked we really bonded. We kind of shopped together, we gave each other opinions on our purchases, gushed about the Royal Wedding, etc. Once she finally made her way to the register she started showing me her treasure. These amazing green Karolina heels, this necklace I’ve been drooling over, and this oh so posh armadillo? clutch. While everyone was swooning over her purchases [including me] I started noticing lots of little critters decorating some of Kate Spades items throughout the shop. Like this belt with it’s two kissing armadillos. EVERYONE was dying over that clutch saying things like “isn’t it SO chic??” “you can wear that with anything!” “you will be the life of the party!”

Yes. Yes you will. In any place other than TEXAS. I mean.. That’s our state animal people. I usually see them dead on the side of the road or rummaging in people’s yards. Never in my life did I ever think our lovely little rodent would be a fashion icon. Then I realized, she probably had no idea what an armadillo was! “Look at this little turtle guy!” Sigh.

On the other hand I’m dying for this elephant belt and I bet people in India think it’s ridiculous. Man fashion is hard.

What do you guys think? Are gold plated rodents the new black? I must know! Also, just incase you didn’t get the Sex and the City reference in the title watch this [warning: there are a few F-bombs in case you're at work or with child]
