10 things: michelle muses can’t live without

We’re continuing with our series featuring some of the creative people that we know. Every Tuesday we will introduce them as they share with us the ten things they can’t live without. Today we are introducing our dear friend and vegetarian foodie, raw food enthusiast, and fellow blogger [Housewife in the Raw] Michelle Muses.

Location: San Antonio, TX

[one] my husband and my children

These 3 people are my life.  We are a family, daily navigating through life.  There is laughter, there are tears.  There are legos all over the floor.  There are countless teachable moments, mostly the kids teaching the parents, but occasionally I’d like to hope that I teach the kids a thing or two. My daughter is much like me, probably the result of years of prayers by my mom that I would someday know the joy of raising a little girl just like me.  She is spunky, independent, analytical and curious .  My son is somehow both mellow and spirited, determined and loves the spotlight (and Buzz Lightyear).  My husband inches closer to sainthood each day.  He is fully present with the kids, somehow always aware of my needs and manages to put himself last without playing the martyr.  He doesn’t do mornings, but he does everything else with integrity and skill.  I am blessed to be mama to these munchkins and wife to this man.

[two] alone time

I love my family.  See above.  But, I also love time to just be me.  No questions to answer, no bottoms or noses to wipe.  I get to drink my tea while it is still hot.  I get to read a book without pictures.  I am forever indebted to the inventor of Mother’s Day Out (who, no doubt, was a mother who needed a day out).  Those 5 hours, twice a week, are golden.

[three] friends and family

I know some ridiculously funny, smart, kind and talented people.  I’m even related to some.  They make me so very happy.  I only wish we all lived on the same street.

[four] tea

Iced or hot.  Green, oolong or black.  Always unsweet.  Always improves the moment.

[five] kitchen appliances

Some like tech gadgets.  Some like tools.  Some like purses.  I like kitchen appliances.  My top five (in no particular order): Vita Mix, Kitchen Aid Mixer, Kitchen Aid Food Processor, Cuisenart Immersion Blender, Excalibur Dehydrator.  The kitchen is my place to be creative and I enjoy creating different dishes with quality appliances.

[six] blogs

Some blogs inspire me to be a better mom. Some blogs teach me new recipes and ingredients.  Other blogs dazzle me with their home makeovers.  Some make me cry, others leave me sitting at the computer giggling uncontrollably.  All the blogs I enjoy are a little glimpse into other’s lives and a chance to see the world through someone else’s lens.

[seven] ballet flats

I am nothing if not practical and clumsy.  Ballet Flats are both stylish and comfortable and greatly reduce my chance of embarrassing stumbles.

[eight] good food

I really, really like to eat.  Good food makes me feel all tingly, happy and alive.  I like fruits and vegetables the most.  The colors, the textures, the flavors and the nutritional benefits are unparalleled in any other type of food. I could (and do) eat plants all day long.  Kale, quinioa, watermelon, oats, peanut butter, dark chocolate, apples and broccoli top my list, but I’m a pretty equal opportunity produce eater.

[nine] books

I am lucky to have been raised by a passionate reader (who was also raised by a passionate reader).  Books were always around, reading always encouraged.  I usually have 2-3 books going at a time and my ‘to read’ list grows daily.  I would love to live next door to the library.  Or have endless credit at Amazon.  Or both.

[ten] jesus

His grace saved me.  His love amazes me.  He is the most important thing on this list to me.

Stay tuned for text Tuesday when we feature our dear friend and coffee connoisseur, speaker of Portuguese, musician, philanthropist, and lover of life Tiffany Scott [@tiffanymaeann]

Until next time!
