awkward and awesome thursday
We’re continuing with our new series called Awesome & Awkward Thursday inspired by our friend Sydney over at The Daybook. We weren’t planning on doing this every week, but we’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from you guys so the series continues!

jacket {forever21}, striped tank {gap}, lace tank {hollister}, jeggings {gap}, shoes {candies}, watch {michael kors}, ring {target}

- The handshake hug. Do you hug? Do you handshake? If you’re me, you just end up stabbing them in the stomach with your hand as they go in for the hug and as you go to quickly hug them back before they notice your hand in their spleen, they’re already pulling away so then it’s like your grabbing them to hug you. I make great first impressions I promise.
- The picture of me pretending to be lawnmower man, oh so awkward.
- That all of my projects at work are due the same day that I am taking my exams. Go go multi-tasking.
- The table next to us with 507 empty DosXX bottles on it. Branch out people!
- The hardest set of exams offered in my profession are only a week away. Holy crap I’m scared.
- Catching myself speaking like Derek. Like saying “that’s interesting” when I’ve already stopped listening, when the other person is completely wrong and I don’t feel like arguing, or when it actually is interesting. It’s such a multi-faceted phrase!
- What the neighbors probably think of us doing this outfit shoots in the middle of the street.
- A girl in study group going on and on about how terrible my firm is. You’re just mad they didn’t hire you. Don’t be rude. And honestly, this was one of the nicer comments she had made. We were BFF that night, let me tell ya.

- Staying up all night watching Big Bang Theory marathons with the boy.
- Impromptu lunch dates during the week! :)
- Baked Mac & Cheese. Want the recipe? You do, I promise.
- Derek actually busting out the “shoulder dance” in the car. This is a huge deal considering I’m officially banned from the shoulder dance. He secretly likes it! yessssssss [what is the shoulder dance? click here and skip to 0:38.. trust me you don't want to watch the whole thing]
- How addicted my mom is to Angry Birds.
- Coke freaking floats.
- Derek surprising me with Tulips, Vernors, and Topo Chico. Does the man know the way to my heart? You betcha!
- How much freedom I’ll have in 10 days. I’m going to sleep/eat/diy/decorate/clean/lay around/blog my brains out!!! :D
What are some awkward/awesome things that have happened to you this week? Embracing the awkward makes you awesome!

Review: 2010 MINI Cooper S

Mmmmm, doesn’t that thing look good? I know dude, so good. Anyhoo…. As I mentioned a little while ago, I got a 2010 MINI Cooper S and traded in my 2005 Dodge Dakota. So far, it’s the best decision I’ve made in a LONG time. Since I was harassed so much last time about not doing a thorough enough post, here it is. So..
The base specs:
Motor
- Turbo Charged
- 16 Valve, 1.6 L inline 4 cyclinder
- Double Overhead Cam
- 172 HP
- Automatic Transmission, Semi-Automatic Sequential transmission
Exterior
- Pepper White/ Black Roof, Mirrors, Bonnet Stripes
- 15″ Alloy Wheels
- Run flat tires
- Dual Pane Sunroof
- Fog Lamps
- Rear Spoiler
- Disc Brakes all around
- Dynamic Stability Control
Interior
- Black Cloth Interior
- Bluetooth Integration
- iPod interface with Steering Wheel Control
- Sport Button
Performance
- Top Speed: 141 mph
- 0-60 in 6.3 seconds
- Quarter Mile: 14.9 seconds
- Slalom: I’ll get back to you on that one.
It’s an amazing car so far. I did get it slightly used. It was a “Program” car, which means that when you have work done on the car, you can arrange to have a loaner car while yours is on the lift. So, since it was technically driven it became a “Certified Pre-Owned.” So it instantly dropped $2,500. Sweet! So I traded in my truck which I said last time, they gave me $5,500, and I put a bit down as well. So in the end it was a nice deal. Since it was certified pre-owned, it also came with the 100,000 mile, 5-year bumper to bumper warranty, which would have been another $3,500 if I bought it new.
So that’s what I’m driving now. When I visited my parents last, it was getting upwards of 36 MPH on I-10 heading east. And now for the cool part, a bunch of big sexy pictures to get excited about. :D

I know…. gorgeous.

10 things: chris myers can’t live without
We’re continuing with our series featuring some of the creative people that we know. Every Tuesday we will introduce them as they share with us the ten things they can’t live without. Today we are introducing our dear friend and aspiring architect, designer, photographer, and fashion guru Chris Myers.
Location: Kerrville, TX

[one] family
Doesn’t everyone list this? Well I tried to come up with something better, but I couldn’t. So let’s talk about family. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without them. I could not have asked for better parents. My dad has always been very supportive of my goals and interested in my future and my mom has taught me so many of the things that make up my character today. My grandmother, Jane, has been influential in the departments of recycling and frugality. She was the first to introduce me to a no waste lifestyle and that the true “green” thing, as we call it today, is to reuse before recycling.

[two] my garage
No, not the garage itself but the things in it. My 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon, 1999 Volkswagen Passat, and 2010 Tundra. I love my cars; I find working on them very gratifying, and in fact, I now spend my spare time working on them in place of watching television. Vanagon is really the eccentric one – her junk is in the trunk, gas is filled in the front, and you are sitting with nothing in front of you (so don’t get in an accident). If that doesn’t scream quirky, then need not I mention her habitual coolant leaks resulting in interesting smells such as pancake syrup or fresh baked cookies.

[three] summertime
This is a simple one. Summertime is a perfect excuse to take off your shirt, swim, get a sunburn, and have some refreshing beverages. Some of my best times have taken place in the hot sun.

[four] food and cooking
The two just go hand in hand. I’ve gotten into the process of cooking and away from the processed foods. It is more gratifying to eat something that grows from the ground and goes directly to my mouth than to think that my existence is sustained by a strict diet of BPA enriched, irradiated corn from a plastic bag or can. Besides, what are you supposed to do with that yucky container when your done with it anyway?

[five] wine
I look forward to a glass of this in the evening to relax. Its a perfect way to enjoy over lunch or to end a long day. Earthy, woodsy, musky, watery (yes, this too) are all qualities I look for in a wine.

[six] challenges
They arnt always fun, but they are a good opportunity for growth. You always end up a better person or learn something new. They come in all shapes and sizes, so beware!

[seven] chips and salsa
I find that this is the best snack food ever! It is my go to snack.

[eight] coffee
Wakey, wakey! Wait a minute!! Not without coffee. This is not only a morning ritual but it is something I do while studying, not only as a stimulater, but also because it smells and tastes like productivity.

[nine] bugsy
My loyal companion, Bugsy, is a brendel Great Dane who is still with us at 9 years of age. She can be intimidating because of her size and her deep bark, but once you are in the circle with her she is very approachable and protective. Bugsy and I share a king size tempur-pedic every night. :) Que cute!!

[ten] travel
When I need a change of pace or am thirsty for an adventure, traveling is the drug I turn to. A far, far place is where I take my sabbaticals- far enough away to forget the rat race here in America and see some of the other paradigms of life that people practice. Some of my most memorable places to have traveled are Africa, northern Canada, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Mexico.

Stay tuned for text Tuesday when we feature our dear friend and film maker, musician, apple geek and snowboarding extraordinaire Colin Smith.
Until next time!
