meet robbie the rhino

January 19 2011

As you know we love unique wall art, animals, and cutting down on our carbon footprint, so when the three combine it’s a done deal. I stumbled across Cardboard Safari the other day, and instantly fell in love. I’ve been searching for the right piece to go above my television between my two chevron canvases and their quirky cardboard animal busts were just the ticket.

I knew I wanted white so that it would pop against my blue living room wall, but I couldn’t decide between the elephant, rhinoceros, and moose.

I ended up going with Robbie the Rhino because the elephant’t trunk would have ended up hanging over my tv, and the moose’s antlers were too wide to fit and still look balanced. He arrived in a small 1″ thick box so obviously there was some assembly required.

It was extremely easy though. The three main pieces [the sides of his face + the horn] had numbered slots, while each circular shape had matching numbers. So then it was just a matching game.

Each piece is cut to precision though like a puzzle, so you have to be careful not to jam them in too far or leave them too loose because in the end each piece depends on the other. And before I knew it, I had a rhino head!

Why hello Robbie! Here he is in his new home: my living room wall.

I really love how quirky and whimsical he is. For more faux animal head wall art, check out last week’s dc:finds!
