10 things: cathy alvarado can’t live without

September 21 2010

We’re continuing with our series featuring some of the creative people that we know. Every Tuesday we will introduce them as they share with us the ten things they can’t live without. Today we are introducing our dear friend and interior designer/graphic designer/aspiring architect/fashionista Cathy Alvarado.

Location: San Antonio, TX

[one] my pedro jose

But you can call him PJ. He’s the love of my life. Yep, he’s the one I watch movies with on Friday nights, have dinner with every day, bugs me to spend extra time when all I need is SPACE. He loves me no matter what and no matter what he does, I love him back because he always puts a smile on my face.

[two] my family

Hmm… yeah, let me sum them up: Crazy for starters, they worry all the time, extremely invasive, loving, caring, non-judgmental, funny, stubborn, strong, amazing, and always super extra supportive. We are like a clan that can’t be broken. I would not have the world at my toes if it weren’t for all of their different viewed personalities!

[three] tea and coffee

I think the only reason I ever wake up is because I know that I get to drink coffee! And then for the rest of the day, I’ve got the tea department to match my mood. Feeling chill, I drink one with rose petals and valerian. If I am upbeat, I drink one with orange peals. I am like that crazy woman who sits down in the tea section and reads all the ingredients! Love it….

[four] my diary

Yeah I know it’s silly. I’ve had one since I was like 5. I couldn’t even write and I would have my family take turns as I dictated my thoughts to them. I have a collection of them now and it’s so great to go back and see how much I’ve grown. It’s like a friend who will always listen and never tell. The best part of it is that putting it on paper always somehow clears my head and gives me solutions.

[five] my books

I love love loveeee my books. Wow.. It’s so great to sit down no matter what time of the year with a cup of coffee and read a book! I love to learn from other people’s experiences. I feel that from each book I learn a lesson and how beyond the bubble I live in, there is so much out there to discover. There are so many stories and experiences to be inspired by!

[six] world 101

I grew up traveling so I never liked it, literally moving every 4 years. Now, there is no one to stop me. I made a promise to myself that every year I would go to 3 places I have never been. It doesn’t matter if it’s across the world or just a few hours away. This year I went a little crazy, but hey if not now.. when? Oh and what I enjoy the most is sending postcards!

[seven] flowers

I recommend it to anyone! I never go without having them at home! At the store I always get asked who they are for and I always say that it’s a gift for myself, to keep the spirit fresh and to remind me that every day is a special day, if you make it that way of course!

[eight] nail polish

I think we have all heard our mom’s tell us that hands say so much about a person, and it’s true. I do it for the fun, but secretly it took away my habit of bitting my nails, so now I’m addicted!

[nine] a good purse

It will make any outfit look great and they last forever! And, they are so so soooo pretty!

[ten] belts

I am a lazy accessorizer…. I always forget the necklace and the matching earings, and I am pretty tame when it comes to fabric with patterns or flowers, etc., because of course… I always stick in some sort of belt. My favorite ones are still the ones my mother gave me from when she was young! It is the perfect, most essential accessory, in my opinion!

Stay tuned for text Tuesday when we feature our dear friend and musician/synth lover/noise maker/published writer/geek/apple connoisseur Jonathan Haenchen [@midsandhighs].

Until next time!
