the great kitchen rug hunt

September 13 2010

Now that we have rugs on the brain,  ever since I saw Fresh’s beautiful bamboo kitchen rug I had to have one. We’ve been on the hunt for the perfect kitchen rug for me for some time now and we thought we’d share the adventure with you! I initially wanted a bamboo or jute rug because they’re super durable for a high traffic area, and they’re really easy to clean. World Market was our first stop because they were the first thing I though of when I thought of bamboo. They had a pretty extensive collection but they were all $50+

But THEN we found that they were having a sale on their 4′x6′ bamboo rugs for $25 what what!

Before purchasing a rug you should always test it out first. For anyone who knows me, I must give everything the trying on dance before buying. This doesn’t exclude rugs. I suggest this method to anyone rug shopping. Give your rug a “trying on dance”

I swore up and down that 4 feet wasn’t too wide for my kitchen because I knew that it was 4 tiles in width.. right? Yeah! It had to be.. So I went home with this baby:

Guess who was wrong? This girl. It was too wide by maybe half an inch. So I ended up taking it back. What did I learn? To always measure first! haha After that we hit up the usuals.. Home Goods, Target, Marshalls, etc. but it was super hit or miss. This thing was like walking on sticks. No bueno!

Then we hit up Urban Outfitters randomly and came across what is now my kitchen rung :)

It’s a little smaller than I wanted being 2′x3′ but I just loved the colors and vintage vibe so much I couldn’t resist, plus it was only $16! Plus it’s canvas so super easy to clean. So there you have it, after many trials and errors and returns I finally found it! What do you look for in a kitchen rug? Or do you even like having one?

Until next time!

Haha the music on the video was awesome. I like how your ‘trying out the rug’ dance in no way involved your feet moving on the rug….

    Glad you found one!

My roommate has been trying to convince me that we need a rug in our kitchen. I’ve been fighting him on this for so long, but I think this post may have won me over. Thanks for the extra push!
